The issue for my organization is sexual assault and their goals are to educate the community about it, reach out to the victims of sexual assault and work towards ending it all together. They are doing a excellent job educating and communicating by holding conferences and special rallys that educate people on these types of issues like stalking and sexual violence. April is also sexual assault awareness month and they hold a rally at the capital. At this point, I dont know of anything that can be done better. They are doing great and Ive learned a great deal within this short period of time. So far, so good! :-)

Expectations for my Organization
Well as I mentioned before, I will working with CCASA, which stands for Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault. My two expectations are to learn from the organization so I can be able to teach and help others when I'm done and to have fun while doing it! Theres really no point in doing certain things if you don't learn and get some kind of enjoyment out of it! This is a new experience for me and also a great one and I hope that it lives up to my expectations and more!

My Movements
We had a discussion in class last week about what women and mens movements we identified with. While sitting there trying to write my list, I couldn't think of any! So after doing some research I have found my movements! The womens movement that I identify with is the Feminist Movement also known as the Womens Movement. This movement fight issues such as reproductive rights, domestic violence, maternity leave, equal pay, voting rights, sexual harassment and sexual violence. The mens movement that I most identify with is the Father's Rights Movement. Activists for this movement work on providing education, support and advocacy with issues custody, access, child support, domestic violence and child abuse, maintenance and family court issues. The members protest what they see as evidence of gender bias against fathers.
I can identify with both these movements because they both fight and support issues that I feel strong about and would fight for! Feminist Movement fighting issues such as domestic violence, equal pay, sexual volence, maternity leave and the Fathers Rights Movement fighing issues such as custody and child support! These issues are issues that affect everyone in some way, shape or form. Both of these movements make me want to get out and do more! From now on I will start volunteering more of time to organizations that have a good cause! Help make the world a better place!!! After all if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything!

My Organization
So the organization that I will be working with is CCASA! I'm super excited to be working with them because the issue of sexual assault is very important to me!! I have also never volunteered my time to a organization so I think this will be good for me! I go Monday for orientation and I'm excited! I can't wait to see what they have in store for me! :-)

Expectations of my Gender
Thinking back to some of my earliest years, I can remember sitting and slouching with my legs open and my mom telling me "sit up straight and keep your legs closed! A lady doesn't sit like that"! I obeyed and whenever I would find myself sitting like that I would remember what she said. But I always thought to myself "why is it that only the ladies have to sit like this"? I never understood intill I got older how males and females are supposed to be and act according to society.
The most recent interaction I had was with a good friend of mine who is a male. We got into a small debate about the roles and responsibilities of a married women. He said "A wife is susposed to simply take care of home! Cooking and cleaning and taking care of the children. Nothing more and nothing less"! I simply laughed and said "those roles have changed"! Its amazing to me how society can try and limit ones roles and responsibilities in the home, based on ones gender.
